Diamond Eternity Ring Basics

Diamond eternity rings are set with gemstones throughout the length of the band. As they look so fancy they are also often referred to as "dress" diamond bands. The continuous circle of gemstones is symbolic of eternal love and of a relationship that will never end. This makes the eternity ring a popular choice for a wedding or engagement band but they can also be given as promise rings or anniversary rings. They are also exchanged as gifts between good friends, for example, from a girlfriend to a breast cancer survivor.

The simplicity of the diamond eternity ring is part of its charm. As it is so simple there are very few variations on its design. Essentially the eternity ring comes in two styles - full eternity rings and half eternity rings. Full eternity rings feature gemstones studding the entire band. The drawback of full eternity rings is that they cannot be resized if the woman gains or loses a lot of weight. The half eternity rings have some space at the back so the ring can be resized if necessary. Like the full eternity rings, half eternity diamond rings still give the illusion that gems are displayed no matter how the ring is rotated on the finger.

As the design of eternity rings requires that the gemstones that must be placed very closely together compact gem shapes are what are usually used to complete the effect. Most eternity rings are designed from one gemstone to preserve the uniformity of the entire design although you can buy some that intersperse diamonds, emeralds or rubies with the diamonds in the band.
