Vintage Juliana Gemstone Bracelets
When collectors and gemologists think of genuine gem jewelry they
think of vintage Juliana Gemstone Bracelets. Juliana gemstone
bracelets were only manufactured for about two years - from 1968 to
1969. These unique designs, which featured clusters of large
individual gems on heavy gold chains and bracelets inspired plenty
of knock-offs especially in the costume jewellry business.
This company was very famous for its five link bracelets which
dangled with enormous baubles which were designed by William Lizzie.
The designs for Juliana gemstone bracelets were very much inspired
by another designer with a passion for bracelets -Shiaparelli.
These Juliana gemstone bracelets were very chunky and gems such as
onyx, emeralds, citrines and rubies were set in heavy gold.
Oversized tahitan pearls in grey pink or black were also sometimes
alternated with gold medallions inset with precious gems such as
carnelian or lapis lazuli. Sometiems the stones would be elaborately
carved to resemble roses, seashells or small animals. The over all
look could be compared to a charm bracelet with beautiful oversized
precious charms and in the sixties these gemstone bracelets were
considered the height of haute couture.
The look of these vintage Juliana gemstone bracelets are once again
coming into style and it is very common to once again find knock
offs of this chunky style of bracelet in jewelry stores online. You
can also find genuine vintage gemstone bracelets done in this style
in vintage stores and at antique markets. However finding a genuine
Juliana gemstone bracelet is quite rare as there were only about
2000 made. However you might be able to find some of the more
amusing plastic knockoffs that are made of plastic and gold tone
metal and that were the mainstay on many Woolworth's jewelry
counters during the late sixties.
