Gemstone Rings at the 2006 Oscars
It seems that Hollywood has been having quite a love affair gemstone
rings. You needed to look no further than the 2006 Oscars to see how
Hollywood's passion for rings with gemstones as well as other types
of fine gem stone jewelry has escalated into a promotional industry
worth millions of dollars.
Some of the more spectacular gemstones seen on the red carpet at the
Oscars this year had a 1950s cocktail flair to their design. This
means the bigger the gemstone rings the better. Some of the more
spectacular examples included a huge pink topaz ring worn by Kate
Bosworth, a giant yellow beryl designed to look like a flower vase
worn by comedian Kathy Griffin and a giant Tahitian pearl worn by
comedienne Debra Messing. Mary Hart, the host of Entertainment
Tonight wore a gigantic 15-carat yellow canary diamond ring.
Besides gemstone rings, the other big trend in fine gem stone
jewelery was detected in the penchant for insanely large brooches.
Many of them were worn in the hair, or as belt clasps or as part of
the strap of a dress. One of the most talked about dresses was Cate
Blanchette's yellow silk number that was held up by a humongous
flowery broach made of yellow sapphires.
Not to be outdone by the women, many male celebrities were spotted
wearing fine gemstone rings and jewelery at the Oscars including
Johnny Depp who wore onyx and diamond cufflinks by Neil Lane and
singer Usher who wore diamond and sapphire cufflinks from the gem
dealer Harry Winston.
