The Fun of a Pink Sapphire Engagement Ring
The pink sapphire engagement is all the rage in fashionable circles
possibly because these unique gem stones are suddenly in generous
supply. This is thanks to a more recently discovered sapphire mine
in Madagascar that is a rich depository of both pink and yellow
stones of a high quality.
Sapphires are also almost as durable as diamonds and make a good
choice for a ring that can be worn every day. Pink sapphires are
equally as hard as blue sapphires, which are second only to diamonds
on the Moh scale of mineral hardness. Diamonds have a hardness
rating of 10 while all sapphires have a hardness rating of 9. This
makes them a compatible match to combine with diamonds to create a
unique engagement ring design.
Pink sapphires are especially fun and modern when combined with
yellow sapphires. Depending on how deep their hue is a pink sapphire
can look like a rare old fashioned raspberry colored ruby from
Ceylon or like a piece of the palest pink transparent rose quartz.
Yellow sapphires can look like light colored emeralds, yellow
diamonds or citrines. White sapphires are often confused for being
diamonds and in fact a white sapphire might just be the next best
thing to a real diamond with a hardness that is far superior to the
zircon, which only has a hardness of 6. Traditionally it is zircons
that are often used to masquerade as a diamonds.
Anyway you look at it sapphires are one of the most versatile
choices for a wedding or engagement ring. A current craze is for the
pink sapphire eternity bands that feature three interlocking bands
of pink, yellow and white gold paved with sapphire chips. Another
very popular look, inspired by an engagement ring owned by Paris
Hilton is the bright yellow sapphire solitaire surrounded by two
pink sapphires.
