Choosing Sapphire Earrings

If you want to make your wife or girlfriend really happy, give her a pair of diamond sapphire earings. Sapphire earrings are a demure but very pretty gift that conveys a message of truth, loyalty and respect. Sapphire earrings are also very expensive which tells your mate that you care enough about her (or him!)to make an investment in your future together and that you are proud to be her partner.

Sapphire earrings come in all different hues including yellow, pink, orange, purple, green and white. However it is the blue earrings that are the priciest and convey the most tradition and respect. Yellow and pink sapphires have a more casual fun look and appeal.

Not all diamond sapphire earings that contain blue gems are alike. Blue sapphires come in different shades of blue. For instance there is the Joan Blue, named after movie star Joan Crawford who was a collector of sapphires. The Joan Blue sapphire is a very dark staid shade that is the color of the midnight sky. Other sapphire gems come in shades from inky black blue to cornflower blue to sunny sky blue.

In general the deeper blue and more transparent that a sapphire is the more valuable it is. Regardless of the exact shade of blue the gem is, look for stones that seem to be satiated with the color. To test the quality of a stone hold it up to the light both indoors and outdoors. Some gems don't sparkle in outdoor light and others won't sparkle in indoor light. If you find one that sparkles in both kinds of light then you have found a true high quality sapphire gemstone.
