The Timeless Diamond and Sapphire Engagement Ring

One of the latest trends in matrimonial jewellery is to mix different colored gems to create a spectacular multi-colored ring. The most popular and traditional of these unique creations is the diamond and sapphire engagement ring. The intense blue of the sapphires add some blue lightening to the tiny icy rows of crystals that are usually part of the classic engagement ring. Also the word has got out that sapphires mean fidelity and loyalty and thus diamond and sapphire engagement rings are very popular as they are symbolic of a true commitment in a relationship.

Since the beginning of time the sapphire engagement ring has almost always symbolized a loyalty that lasts until death. The startling blue of a sapphire speaks of a heart that is "true blue." The glitter of a sapphire is also symbolic of heaven and the high aspiration that a marriage should be the merging of two soul mates that also have union on a higher plane.

Today diamond and sapphire engagement rings are available in all kinds of styles and set with different types of precious metals. You can actually choose a sapphire whose hue suits the personality of the bride. For instance a Kashmir ruby (which would most likely be extremely expensive because the stone is so high quality) is an intense dark blue and suit a bride who is older and wiser.

However if the bride is younger, yellow or pink sapphires might be a good choice for a gemstone. These so-called "fancy" sapphires are also usually less expensive and therefore more affordable for a younger couple. The craze for pink and yellow engagement rings was inspired by a big bauble that Paris Hilton was wearing on her fourth finger during her engagement to Paris Latsis. Imitations of this ring consist of a yellow sapphire flanked by two pink sapphires. The main stone in Hilton's engagement ring however was a canary diamond flanked by two pink sapphires.
